Highlights
Specialized Classes and Curriculum
Students in the ninth through twelfth grade choose
from a variety of specialized classes including Law and Youth, Criminal
Justice Legal Writing, Law and Literature, Civil Law, International
Law, and Forensic Science. Foreign Language classes provide interpretation
and translation, while math and science classes foster background
in investigative techniques.
Every attempt is made to provide each student
with programs that meet their academic needs and fulfill the requirements
of colleges and universities in California and throughout the United
States.
Magnet students can choose from honors level
and Advanced Placement (AP) classes in many subject areas such as:

Community Service
Community service is an integral part of the
twelfth grade curriculum. Students have the opportunity to work
closely with community leaders in local government agencies as well
as private firms. Seniors can also choose the option of taking college
classes in administration and legal research on Monroe’s campus.
Extra-Curricular Activities
To complement their course curriculum, magnet
students can choose from many exciting activities including mock
trials, debate team, internships,
Junior Statesmen of America membership and special invitations to
events sponsored by local politicians.
Field trips to the Los Angeles Courts, LAPD
Crime labs, and special conferences with law/government related
organizations are an essential part of the magnet experience. Guest
government related organizations are an essential part of the magnet
experience. Guest speakers also make regular visits in the Magnet
courtroom.
Unique Facilities
Mock trials are held in the state-of-the-art
courtroom on the Monroe campus. Students are involved in mock trials
and moot court hearings in the courtroom on a regular basis.
The Law and Government Magnet is also equipped
with IBM computers and printers in most classrooms. Also, students
have access to the latest legal software and Internet research links
in a dedicated magnet computer lab. A complete law library is located
on campus.
In addition, a forensic science laboratory with
the latest technology and scientific equipment is available to students.
