My experiences at Law & Government Magnet are all positive.
The many Monroe mock trials I was part of taught me the mechanics
of a trial. Whether it was recreating the trial of “12 Angry
Men” as part of Ms. Sutherland’s English class, or participate
on Ms. Graber’s Constitutional Rights Foundation Mock Trial
Team, I learned the art of an opening statement, the importance
of direct examination, the tricks of cross examinations and the
power of a closing argument. It was the magnet program that enabled
me to be selected for the California Mock Trial Team and later the
New York University Law School Mock Trial Team. And beyond learning
trial techniques, I also learned substantive areas of law. I can
still remember my first exposure to contract law, Mr. Elinson instilled
in me the importance of being precise in a contract, even a contract
for a peanut-butter-and jelly sandwich.
